National Association of Chiefs of Police

The National Association of Chiefs of Police (NACOP) provides advocacy and representation for law enforcement and security personnel at the local, state, and federal levels.

The organization works to promote the interests and rights of its members and to foster public trust and respect for the profession. NACOP publishes a quarterly magazine, The Chief of Police, which features articles on current issues, best practices, and innovations in the field. The magazine also showcases the achievements and contributions of NACOP members and affiliates.
NACOP is a member of the National Law Enforcement Partnership to Prevent Gun Violence, a coalition of national law enforcement organizations that advocates for common-sense measures to reduce gun violence and save lives. NACOP also partners with other organizations that share its vision and mission, such as the National Sheriffs’ Association, the International Association of Chiefs of Police, the Fraternal Order of Police, and the American Society for Industrial Security.
It’s program services include training programs for law enforcement and security professionals, as well as civilians who want to enhance their personal safety.
NACOP’s Law Enforcement Education Program (“LEEP”) offers advanced tactical training for officers, while its Safety Training Education Program (“STEP”) teaches firearms safety, self-defense, and active shooter response to ordinary citizens.
NACOP supports officers and their families who have been injured or disabled in the line of duty, through scholarships, grants, and the Law Enforcement Purple Heart medal.
NACOP also conducts an annual survey of its members to understand their needs and challenges, and to inform its funding and program decisions. And helps smaller agencies acquire and train canine officers.
NACOP is a program of the United States Law Enforcement Foundation, a 501c3 public charity. Operating priorities are guided by an advisory board of composed of current and retired chiefs of police, sheriffs, and other experts from various sectors, such as academia, business, media, and government.
